Hello! Welcome to my website. I’m an author, marketing strategist, copywriter and journalist, and I live in north Wiltshire with my partner Pip and my dog Mabel.
I spent the first seven years of my career as a secretary, which a) taught me to type extremely quickly and b) gave me a very low tolerance for terrible people. In 2000 I made a career move into marketing and advertising, where I’ve made my living ever since. Some of my early writing work includes writing instruction manuals for vacuum cleaners and sex toys, so I know quite a lot about both. Mostly I’d advise you never to get these two mixed up.
Since 2008 I’ve also written lots of liveblogs for The Guardian, about everything from The Apprentice to Big Brother and Strictly Come Dancing, and I also liveblog the Eurovision Song Contest for eurovision.tv. I’ve taken part in podcasts, radio interviews and TV chats about all of the above, so I’ve got lots of experience in live broadcast stuff.
In March 2020 I was furloughed from my job as Head of Strategy for a marketing agency, during the first Covid lockdown. I decided to use the time to fulfil a lifelong ambition to write a novel, partly as something to fill the time, but also as a way of dealing with the strange and unsettling time we were living in.
Like many people I thought I’d be back at work in a few months, so I wrote Two Metres From You full time and finished it by the end of the first lockdown. As it turned out I was made redundant anyway, but by then I’d found a brilliant literary agent and decided that one day I’d like to make writing novels my permanent job.
That’s a way off yet (and might never happen), which awkwardly segues into my second novel Never Gonna Happen, which came out in May 2022. In March 2022 Two Metres From You won the Katie Fforde Debut Romantic Novel Award. My third novel The Only Way Is Up was published in November 2022, and my fourth, Game, Set, Match came out in June 2023, followed by Same Time Next Year in February 2024. I still work pretty much full time for a marketing agency in London (I’m on LinkedIn and everything).
